"The Springville bus was empty, thank God," Deputy David Karney said. "They were both within the 55 mph limit on Route 39 in Collins." The crash occurred on a curve near Brown Street, where the eastbound car driven by Lynn M. Wrobel, 36, of Collins Center, drifted into the westbound lane. "I think she tried to swerve, but it was pretty messy from the snow and salt, and when you are on that slush ridge in the center, it's hard to turn back," Karney said. Bus driver Ann Rugg, also 36, of East Otto, also "tried to swerve to the shoulder," the deputy said. "The bus hit the car on the driver's door side." Wrobel was pronounced dead on arrival at Bertrand Chaffee Hospital in Springville. Rugg was treated for cuts from the bus' shattered windshield. "The worst thing was, they knew each other," the deputy said.
