This Week
I must apologize. I have been having an extremely difficult week, my physical therapist / pain management specialist is on vacation and no matter how little I do, I am in extremem pain. Therefore, there will be no updates this week. I am still involved in the Site Fights and would appreciate your support.
Thank You.
The At-Will Doctrine provides that an employer can discharge an employee for any or no reason. It allows the employer certain "rights" of abuse, which far too many practice. Presently, Montana is the only state to fully address this issue via legislation. In New York state, the tides are slowly turning.
Bill A02884, presently referred to codes, would allow employees who leave their job because of verbal or physical harassment to collect unemployment.
Bill A05279, presently referred to Labor, would make it illegal for employers in New York State to require that employees waive their rights to benefits by signing an agreement to binding arbitration. Far too many people have waived their rights to sue by signing a binding arbitration agreement in their application. This has long been an unfair practice of employers, another "right to abuse."
Bill A06687 would not allow employers to classify certain "direct seller" personnel as "independant contractors." The Bill clearly states" that no person shall be
determined to be an independent contractor if any other person, or
entity maintains control over the manner in which they perform their
assigned duties or tasks, and if applicable, retains a significant
financial interest in the earnings of such person."
Of course, the most important of all; Bill S01593,"The Wrongful Discharge of Employment Act," which would forever repeal the At-Will Employment Doctrine from New York State!
The aforementioned are all in regards to New York State, this however, is an issue which affects approximately 75% of ALL working Americans. I urge each and everyone of our readers to contact their local lawmakers and push them to once and for all, close the gap allowing employers to abuse employees by enacting a "wrongful termination" law. Taking steps now will save you from one day writing to Issues asking for direction because you lost your job for no apparent reason. I urge every American to take steps in regards to eliminating the At-Will Doctrine before it is too late.
Issues, has returned to the Battlefield in The Site Fights. So, if you're feeling the urge please drop in and give us a vote.
Spirit Pages
Issues' Spirit Pages have been growing and growing. In order to be able to continue a Spirit Section, we have had to eliminate a couple of pages. Therefore, our all new Spirit Page is located here. We will however continue to keep Tai's Spirit Forest and Alexis' Spirit Garden available.
The Albee Cemetery
Issues' genealogy section takes a look at a destroyed cemetery this week, the Albee Cemetery. We have included as much of a genealogical profile of the Albee family as possible. Issues has also updated our 2002 Death Notices for both the Collins / Collins Center and the Cattaraugus Indian Reservation.
As always...... I wish each and every one
of you a life filled with dreams and void of ISSUES! I
