Silexa Meets Faith Bear

Once upon a time there was a little girl named Silexa who had a very special friend. Everyone thought Silexa had lost her pretty little mind because they could not see Silexa’s friend. They could not hear Silexa’s friend. They could not smell Silexa’s friends. Silexa’s friend was a magical friend, invisible to everyone but Silexa.

Silexa was a very lucky, little girl; for Silexa’s grandmother was an enchantress, a sorceress, a magician. No one but Silexa knew about her grandmother’s magical powers. This was a secret only Silexa and her grandmother shared.

Silexa and her grandmother shared lots of secrets when they were together. Whenever Silexa was afraid, she would share her fears with her grandmother, because all grandmothers, everywhere on earth have special powers to make fears disappear. Whenever Silexa shared her fears with her grandmother, the things that scared her no longer scared her. Silexa liked that.

Silexa shared other secrets with her grandmother too. Sometimes Silexa had homework from school that she just did not understand. Silexa’s teacher would explain the homework, but Silexa still did not understand. Silexa’s big brother would explain the homework, but Silexa still did not understand. Silexa’s mother would explain the homework, but Silexa still did not understand. Silexa’s grandmother would explain the homework, and just like magic, Silexa understood. Grandmothers, everywhere on earth have special powers to help their grandchildren understand. Whenever Silexa shared her homework with her grandmother, the homework suddenly became very easy. Silexa liked that.

Sometimes Silexa’s schoolmates would pick on her and hurt her feelings. This made Silexa feel bad. When Silexa told her grandmother about the schoolmate who picked on her and made her feel bad, and just like magic, Silexa no longer felt bad. Grandmothers, everywhere on earth have special powers to help their grandchildren feel better about themselves. Whenever Silexa shared her problem with her grandmother, the problem no longer seemed like a problem to Silexa. Silexa liked that.

No matter what seemed wrong, no matter was made her afraid, no matter who hurt her feelings, no matter how hard her homework was, all Silexa had to do was share it with her grandmother and everything would be fine. Grandmothers, everywhere on earth have special powers to help their grandchildren no matter what problem the grandchild encountered. Whenever Silexa shared her problems with her grandmother, the problem disappeared. Silexa liked that.

Something had changed. Suddenly, Silexa did not see her grandmother like she use to. Suddenly, Silexa did not have a magical person to make everything fine. This made Silexa very sad and very afraid. Silexa did not understand why she did not see her grandmother. Silexa did not understand why no one else in the world could make her feel better when her feelings were hurt. Silexa did not understand why no one else in the world could make her fears go away. Silexa did not understand why no one else in the world could make her understand her homework. Silexa did not understand why things had to change. No one explained to Silexa that her grandmother was very ill. Because Silexa did not understand she became very sad.

Silexa was very upset. She no longer felt hungry, so she stopped eating. She no longer felt thirsty, so she stopped drinking. She no longer felt like playing, so she stayed in her room. She no longer wanted to talk to her schoolmates, so she stayed by herself. The beautiful little girl that Silexa had been had disappeared leaving just a shadow behind.

Silexa’s mother was worried about Silexa. Silexa’s brother was worried about Silexa. But the shadow of Silexa kept fading away. Soon even Silexa’s shadow would just disappear. This made everyone sad, but Silexa did not understand.

Silexa’s shadow grew fainter and fainter, now even the blankets on her bed fell right through her. She could not eve stay warm. She cuddled up, wrapping her arms around her knees, pulling her knees close to her chest. Laying her cheek against her knee, Silexa sighed. All of her sadness gathered in her sigh, floating out of her mouth and up through her room. The sigh squeezed through a tiny crack in the tile blocks of the ceiling, floating, floating, up and up her sigh went. The sigh kept climbing finding tiny cracks to help it escape Silexa’s home.

Once her sigh had made it outside, slipping upward, floating along first dashing left then right so that the sigh did not get caught on the limb of a tree. Clearing the tree, the sigh floated with ease, tickling a cloud as it floated through it. Up and up the sigh floated barely missing a collision with an airplane. The sigh climbed upward, held deep within a protective bubble, it headed towards a magical land where Care Bears lived in rainbow castles.

“A-A-A-A-A-H-H-H-H-H” The sigh exploded as it settled in a far corner of Care Bear Land. The sigh was so loud that it shock rainbow castles, frightening the bears and their cousins.

“W-w-what was that?” Cried Bedtime Bear jumping from his bed.

Friend Bear frowned. “I think it was a sigh.”

“A sigh?” Grumbled Grumpy Bear. “It sounded like a sonic boom!” Grumpy Bear straightened a photo that tilted on the wall. “It shook the whole castle.”

“Oh my,” sighed Tenderheart Bear, “someone is in terrible trouble, we’d better check it out.”

Gathering around the special earth monitor, Harmony Bear programmed the monitor searching the earth for the source of the sigh.

“There! There!” Cried Love-A-Lot Bear. “Look! Do you see it?”

The Care Bears closed around the monitor, their eyes following to where Love-A-Lot Bear’s paw pointed.

“Oh, no!” A huge tear slipped from Cheer Bear’s eye. “That poor child, she has lost her faith.”

Friend Bear turned, facing the others. “We have to move quickly! There is no time to waste. We must get to Faith Bear, this child needs his haste!”

So up to the watch tower the Care Bears did run; ignoring all others, ignoring their fun.

Silexa, they knew needed their care and that was on the mind of each little bear.

Once in the watch tower, to the secret door they went; they pulled out a secret machine and their message was sent.

Boom! Boom! Went the clapper on Faith Bear’s castle door, “An emergency!” he cried, running across the floor!

“A-A-A-A-A-H-H-H-H-H!” The sigh echoed as the message drew near; “Someone has lost faith!” This message was clear!

So Faith Bear did rush to his magical sled, and headed to visit Silexa in bed.

Silexa’s shadow was nearly gone, when Faith Bear appeared near the first lights of dawn.

Faith Bear knew in his heart, lest her faith be renewed; that even the shadow would be gone, leaving no Silexa to be viewed.

“Silexa!” He cried, his paw tapping her window glass; “Quick, jump aboard, don’t let any time pass!”

The shadow of Silexa crawled out of her bed, crept slowly across the floor, opened the window, and climbed onto the sled.

The shadow of fists rubbed at Silexa’s eyes, and in that brief moment Silexa started to cry.

Faith Bear felt his heart break in two, three and four; his paws encircled Silexa, he knew this would be a chore.

As his arms touched Silexa, a vision played in his head, taking him back to the days before Silexa was just a shadow lying on her bed.

Back to the days when Silexa still laughed; the days when happiness was a Grandmother’s craft.

“Silexa, my dear!” Faith Bear did declare; “This job will take more than a mere Care Bear!”

So off on the magical sled they did fly; the shadow of a tear dripping from a shadow of an eye.

“It’s Grandma’s house!” Silexa shouted with glee. At that very moment that shadow of the young girl started to flee.

Replacing the shadow a young girl did rise; with hope on her face and Faith in her eyes.

Grandmother stood waiting by the door for the two, “Silexa!” She cried, “I’m sure glad to see you!”

Taking Silexa into her big house, Grandmother sat on the oversized couch.

“Silexa, My Dear, come sit with me,” Just like in the old days, she patted her knee.

Silexa jumped up onto her Grandmother’s knee. “Grandma,” she cried “I thought you forgot me!”

“Oh, Silexa, my dear,” her grandmother did cry; the tears of upset, slipping from her eye.

“I could never forget you, my love is too strong; just because you did not see me, your thoughts were all wrong.”

She hugged the girl, her love holding on tight; she absorbed the last of Silexa’s fright.

“Grandma, you are magical; you know that it’s true; I could never imagine life without you.”

“A grandmother’s magic is no more than love. It is the faith in your heart that you speak of.”

“Faith grandmother, I don’t understand.” Silexa’s grandmother silenced her with a wave of her hand.

“Silexa. My Love, pay attention to me, it was no more than love that helped you see. But Faith in your heart made my love unique, but without your Faith, love becomes bleak.”

Silex’s eyes questioned her grandmother’s words; it appeared to her grandmother that Silexa thought this absurd.

Faith Bear, with a nod of his head, told Silexa’s grandmother what needed to be said.

“Silexa, please listen to what I have to say, for the message I give you will have to stay.”

“But Grandma,” Silexa began to protest, but her grandmother refused to be put to the test.

So on with the story, her grandmother did go, for it told why a young girl’s faith needed to flow.

“Once upon a time there was a little girl named Silexa who had a very special friend. Everyone thought Silexa had lost her pretty little mind because they could not see Silexa’s friend. They could not hear Silexa’s friend. They could not smell Silexa’s friends. Silexa’s friend was a magical friend, invisible to everyone but Silexa.”

“This very special friend of Silexa who was known as Faith Bear, he was a friend that Silexa did not have to share. No one else could see Silexa’s friend because faith itself cannot be seen. They could not hear Silexa’s friend because faith lives in your heart, and when your heart speaks it speaks only to you. They could not smell Silexa’s friend because faith is all aromas mixed together, faith is unique to each person. Silexa’s friend was a magical friend, invisible to everyone but Silexa, because these days faith seemed lost to the world.”

“Silexa was a very lucky, little girl; for Silexa’s grandmother was an enchantress, a sorceress, a magician. Her grandmother’s magic was love. There were no special powers. There were no potions. There was nothing but love, and love is an unbreakable bond. Silexa thought her grandmother’s magical powers were shared only with her, but she was wrong, because a grandmother’s love is shared equally amongst all of her grandchildren. The secret only Silexa and her grandmother shared, was the faith that this love lit in Silexa’s heart.”

“Silexa and her grandmother shared lots of secrets when they were together. Whenever Silexa was afraid, she would share her fears with her grandmother, because all grandmothers, everywhere on earth have special powers to make fears disappear. Silexa did not understand that it was not her grandmother alone that made these fears disappear; it was faith that made them disappear. Whenever Silexa shared her fears with her grandmother, the things that scared her no longer scared her, because Silexa’s faith in her grandmother’s love made Silexa believe that her grandmother could erase all of her fears. Silexa did not realize that faith and love made the fears go away, not grandma.”

“Silexa shared other secrets with her grandmother too. Sometimes Silexa had homework from school that she just did not understand. When Silexa told her grandmother about the schoolmate who picked on her and made her feel bad, just like magic, Silexa no longer felt bad. Grandmothers, everywhere on earth have special powers to help their grandchildren feel better about themselves. Whenever Silexa shared her problem with her grandmother, the problem no longer seemed like a problem to Silexa, because Silexa’s grandmother’s love made Silexa understand that sometimes people hurt your feelings because they want your attention. It was Silexa’s faith that helped her understand the lessons her grandmother shared.”

“No matter what seemed wrong, no matter was made her afraid, no matter who hurt her feelings, no matter how hard her homework was, all Silexa had to do was share it with her grandmother and everything would be fine. Grandmothers, everywhere on earth have special powers to help their grandchildren no matter what problem the grandchild encountered. Whenever Silexa shared her problems with her grandmother, the problem disappeared because the love Silexa and her grandmother shared was so strong it helped build faith in Silexa’s heart. What Silexa did not realize was that it was not her grandmother that was magical, it was her own faith.”

When Silexa’s grandmother finished her tale, Silexa’s grief started to wail.

“No grandma, grandma, you don’t understand; you are the only one magical in this whole land.”

“Silexa, My Dear,” Her grandmother hugged her tight; taking away all of her fright.

“Silexa, please you must understand; the magic you speak of you know first hand. The magic of love that we share is also the magic of faith and care. The faith in your heart keeps you strong; you wither away if your faith is not strong.

“For the days that you feel you most need your grandmother’s love; are the days that you must realize that your own faith lies far above.”

“Fell faith in your heart, dear; this you must do; for a grandmother’s love is tried and it’s true. But unless the faith in your heart stays quite strong; you will wither away, feel you do not belong.”

“Take heed in my words, Silexa, Dear; Keep my message in your heart; keep it quite clear. Grandmother’s sometimes must fade away but a grandmother’s love will always stay.”

She kissed Silexa on her head, walked out to find Faith Bear waiting on his magical sled. “Faith Bear,” Cried Grandma with love and glee; “I want you to promise to take care of Silexa for me.”

Faith Bear took Silexa from her grandmother’s hand, preparing to return her from this magical land. “I promise Grandmother,” Faith Bear smiled his delight, “I will remain by her side through day and night. I will watch for those times that her Faith begins to slide, and mount her on my sled for a magical ride.”

Silexa waved to her grandmother as the sled pulled away; and returned to her home and a remarkable day. Silexa had learned a valuable lesson, to keep the faith in her heart strong, never to lessen. Grandmother’s love would always stay strong, keeping Silexa’s fear where it belonged; locked far away from where it could do harm, her faith alone keeping it from alarm.

Silexa is now a wonderful child; warm and loving her demeanor quite mild. For Silexa has a friend that no one can see; Faith Bear and grandma are her secret family.
